Cognitive Remediation: A Method to Develop Your Abilities

The cognitive remediation method can provide valuable support at different stages of the educational journey:

  • Students in lower and upper secondary education (Vocational training, ECG, and Gymnasium).
  • University students, at UAS or in other higher education programs.
  • Candidates preparing for the regulation procedure for admission to UAS-SO (see below).
  • Individuals facing cognitive disorders after an accident or during adult life.

The method allows you to:

  • Strengthen attention, planning, and organization.
  • Improve time and space management.
  • Develop language, as well as the expression of ideas and emotions.
  • Promote more effective social interactions.

According to the theory of Structural Cognitive Modifiability (SCM) :
“Any human being, regardless of their current level of intellectual development, can progress at any age by developing their existing cognitive structures or creating new ones.” (Annie Cardinet, p. 98) .

Preparation for the HES-SO Regulation Procedure

The regulation procedure for admission to Universities of Applied Sciences (HES-SO) includes preparation for several aptitude tests, particularly:

  • Numerical sequences.
  • Abstract reasoning.
  • Spatial reasoning.

It enables you to:

  • Become familiar with the difficulties encountered in these tests.
  • Develop the cognitive skills needed to improve performance.
  • Approach the test with better preparation and greater confidence.

Note : the method does not directly cover numerical calculation tests or verbal analogies.
